🌴 Which exam do I take?

In Florida, LCSW candidates take the ASWB Clinical exam (Florida Board of Clinical Social Work). The ASWB Masters exam is for master's-level licenses in other states. Not sure? Check with your state social work board.

This course covers both. Clinical-specific lessons are marked Clinical emphasis, and there is a separate mock exam for each.

About the ASWB exam

A plain-language summary of the current format (the 2026 exams, given since August 3, 2026). Facts checked on aswb.org on October 23, 2026.

Questions: 122 multiple-choice questions. 110 are scored. The other 12 are unscored "pretest" questions ASWB is trying out, and you can't tell which ones they are.
Time limit: 4 hours.
Content: three content areas, with more questions asking you to apply knowledge to a situation.
Scoring: pass/fail. Only the 110 scored questions count. Because there are several versions of the exam, the number you need correct depends on the version, and generally ranges from 66 to 78 out of 110.
Retakes: you must wait 90 days between attempts. If you were within 10 correct answers of passing and your state board allows it, you can ask ASWB for a waiver. Some boards limit how many times you can test.
